Make a personalized candy bar at Hershey

IMG_2760On our agenda in Hershey, PA was nonetheless visiting the Hershey Factory.

We had plans to make personalized candy bars.

We were on a mission.

The weather was cold and drizzly, so to have something indoors to do with the girls was a hit!

The Hershey Factory offers trolley tours around the grounds learning all the history and fun facts of Milton Hershey and his success. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time for tour. We had a conference to attend.

But we did what we set out to do, and it was far from disappointing.

Hello? We were in a building surrounded with God-only-knows-how-many-pounds-of-chocolate – Who wouldn’t be happy??

After securing our tickets for our personalized candy bars, the adventure began.

Following all of the rules and regulations set by the FDA, we stowed our belongings, removed all jewelry and netted-up.

Some were less thrilled than others.

When making your personalized chocolate bar, you begin with scanning your ticket.

After confirming you are you, you have the choice of base for your bar, fillings and coating. {Yes, there will be one of these machines in Heaven. I am sure of it.}

If you have food allergies, no worries …..

After the hard decisions are made, it’s time for the goodness…

IMG_2833

After scanning your ticket and ‘getting in line’ – the machine starts to ‘make’ (assemble) your candy bar.

IMG_2853

The base is already molded, so the ‘robot’ drops it on the conveyer and assembly begins.

At each stop, the computer shows your name, so you will know that is your candy bar in the making. Just another personal touch…

After the fillings, the bar is then coated with sweet goodness.

The excess shaken and removed…

And the bar is sent on its way to the cooling racks.

IMG_2901
While the bar is cooling and hardening, and prepping for packaging, more difficult decisions have to be made. How in the world will you personalize your box??

Some had no trouble deciding….

IMG_2911
After designing your box, you could see the statistics of how many people chose/made what type of candy bars over time. It was interesting to see which were the more common. You also had the option to vote for the next type of inclusion you would like to see Hershey offer ….

IMG_2944
If you are a clock-watcher, there is a production schedule for your reference. This tells you how long until your bar is packaged and ready for pickup.

When complete, your personalized chocolate bar is served with a smile!
